Ignacio Bahamondes may have earned a shot at a top-15 lightweight opponent after dismantling dangerous striker Manuel Torres with a first-round TKO (punches) earlier tonight (Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024) at UFC 306. The fight, broadcast live on ESPN+ pay-per-view (PPV) from inside the Sphere in Las Vegas, Nevada, was a highlight of the prelims.
Torres entered the bout on a three-fight UFC win streak, all first-round finishes, but Bahamondes, sporting a 4-2 UFC record, was ready to spoil the party. Despite Torres' early power and aggression, Bahamondes stood his ground, using his longer reach and footwork to outmaneuver his opponent.
In a battle of distance control, Bahamondes’ cleaner striking from range proved decisive. As Torres pressed forward, Bahamondes landed a sharp counter right hand, flooring Torres. Although Torres got back to his feet, his chin was severely tested. Moments later, Bahamondes landed the same counter right, this time finishing the job. A few follow-up strikes sealed the deal, forcing the referee to step in and stop the fight.
