Jane's Addiction Concert Cut Short After Perry Farrell Punches Dave Navarro Onstage

Last night's Jane's Addiction concert (Friday, September 13) at the Leader Bank Pavilion in Boston was cut short after an altercation between co-founders Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro. Toward the end of their set, during the song "Ocean Size," Farrell, who appeared intoxicated and otherwise impaired, physically assaulted Navarro. Reports suggest Farrell has been struggling with sobriety throughout the tour, and the band's inconsistent performances have overshadowed what was expected to be a triumphant, possibly final, run.

The incident escalated when Farrell aggressively bumped shoulders with Navarro and began shouting profanities in his face. Navarro, seemingly confused by the attack, stopped playing and placed a hand on Farrell’s chest in an attempt to defuse the situation. Farrell then appeared to punch Navarro in the face before being restrained by bassist Eric Avery and a roadie, who quickly escorted him offstage.

There are 15 remaining dates on the tour, which features openers Love & Rockets, and is scheduled to conclude in Los Angeles on October 16. Later that evening, Farrell’s wife, Etty Lau Farrell, addressed the altercation, explaining that mounting tensions had been brewing throughout the tour. She cited the band’s volume on stage and Perry’s struggles with tinnitus and a sore throat as contributing factors to the outburst. A video of the altercation has since circulated online, along with Etty’s statement.

The incident occurred during drummer Stephen Perkins’ 57th birthday celebration. Navarro, visibly shocked, tossed his guitar pick into the crowd before exiting the stage. Earlier in the week, the band had also faced challenges during two rough performances at the Rooftop at Pier 17 in New York City. On Tuesday, Farrell admitted to the audience, "Ladies and gentlemen, I have to be honest with you. Something’s wrong with my voice. I just can’t get the notes out all of a sudden." The following day, Avery posted on Instagram, expressing optimism for the next show: "Looking forward to getting another crack at this spectacular rooftop venue tonight. I’m optimistic we will be better."

In a recent interview with Guitar World, Avery expressed uncertainty about the band's future, hinting that Jane’s Addiction might not be around by 2025.
